Help us celebrate the birth of Queen Emma, “Queen of the Peoples’s hearts”. It was her and her husband, King Kamehameha IV, who established what is now Queen’s Medical Center in response to the fast diminishing Hawaiian population; it was during Emma’s travels to Europe, Latin America and North America when she fundraised and subsequently established St. Andrew’s Priory School for girls, providing access to education at a time when girls generally did not receive an education equivalent to that of boys.  At Queen Emma Summer Palace visitors will view part of Queen Emma’s vast book collection; learn how she helped establish the United States’ only statewide library system, Hawai‘i State Public Library and was the first woman to run for political office in the Royal election and the first official Queen to visit the White House.
