He Lei No ‘Emalani
A Musical Tribute Honoring Our Queen Emma
Join us at Hānaiakamalama, the Summer Palace of our dear Queen Emma Kaleleonālani Na‘ea Rooke, as we present for you a traditional Hawaiian musical tribute in celebration of one of Hawai‘i’s most beloved ali‘i. Known affectionately as ‘Emalani by her people, this tribute shares our love and respect for her with traditional hula and mele or songs written for her, as well as a debut of ‘Emalani’s poems set to melodies arranged by Ku‘uipo Kumukahi. Hosted by Kamaka Pili of Aloha Authentic, with musical performances by Ku‘uipo Kumukahi and Helene Woodward and appearances by Uncle Babes Bell, Kumu Nalani Keale, Kealaanuhea Joseph, and Hi‘ialoka‘ohuikapuahiwahiwa Tom-Aiu.
Start the morning with a tour of her home. Then e nānea mai, come relax and enjoy the beautiful musical tribute. Following the performance, explore the grounds of the Palace. Individually prepared tea boxes are available to order, in a nod to a traditional English high tea, for enjoyment throughout the grounds or at the neighboring park. The boxed tea service celebrates Queen Emma’s affection for and close relationship with England’s Queen Victoria.
Brought to you in partnership with the Hawaiian Music Perpetuation Society with design by Sheslash.
