Ho‘onanea: A Vintage Experience at Hānaiakamalama

hoʻonanea:  verb. To pass the time in ease, peace, and pleasure; to relax, lounge, repose; absorbed, contented.

Take a step back in time and enjoy the serenity of Hānaiakamalama in lush Nuʻuanu, as you join us for this deluxe tour experience at the Queen Emma Summer Palace! We are thrilled to present Hoʻonanea: A Vintage Experience at Hānaiakamalama offering a unique and immersive tour at one of Honolulu's most honored and revered historic homes. Upon arrival, guests will select a vintage muʻumuʻu to wear for the occasion from the expansive and colorful collection of vintage aloha wear from our partner, the Muʻumuʻu Library. Guests will then learn how to create and fashion a fresh floral hairpiece to complete their ensemble from the knowledgeable Kumu Kuhi. Once appropriately attired, guests will step back in time with a docent-led tour of the Palace, a timeless symbol of classic Hawaiian elegance and contemporary style, to learn more about Queen Emma, the royal family, and their lives in old Hawaiʻi. The experience will conclude with a light picnic lunch of delightful delicacies that can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the picturesque tropical gardens or at the neighboring park.

This three-hour program is co-sponsored by the Daughters of Hawaiʻi and the Queen Emma Summer Palace, brought to you in partnership with Kumu Kuhi and the Muʻumuʻu Library.

Picnic Lunch:  A light picnic lunch is included for guests to enjoy at the Palace, the park, or to take home. We encourage guests to bring a lauhala mat or picnic blanket with pillows to enjoy their picnic. While there are a limited number of chairs and tables at the Palace, we also encourage guests to create their own table-setting with linens and china. Garden tables and chairs are available on a first-come basis, however, guests may bring their own setup as well! Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies when making your reservation, so that we can meet your dietary needs. Please note for food allergies: we cannot guarantee the absence of cross contamination, as we CANNOT guarantee a nut free kitchen.

Vintage Muʻumuʻu:  At this time, we are only able to offer muʻumuʻu for women in sizes S-XXL+. For those who are unable to participate in selecting vintage aloha wear, as only vintage muʻumuʻu are available, we encourage purchasing a companion ticket and arriving dressed in your own aloha attire. The companion ticket will include learning how to make a fresh floral hairpiece, the guided tour, and a picnic lunch.
