Queen Emma Summer Palace

Hānaiakamalama gives you a rare look into Hawai‘i’s royal past

Tucked into the green hills of Nu‘uanu Valley on O‘ahu, Queen Emma Summer Palace—Hānaiakamalama—is a quiet treasure. It invites you to step into the personal world of Hawaiian royalty. Visitors often say the experience feels “peaceful,” “intimate,” and “moving” as they walk through the light-filled rooms once used by Queen Emma, King Kamehameha IV, and their son, Prince Albert Edward.

Outside, the gardens add to the calm. Tall trees offer cool shade over the Prince Albert Terrace, a favorite spot to sit, reflect, or enjoy the breeze. The grounds feel like a sanctuary—quiet, green, and full of history.

Queen Emma was more than a monarch—she was a visionary. Known for her compassion and advocacy, she co-founded The Queen’s Hospital to provide care for Native Hawaiians and traveled abroad to strengthen Hawai‘i’s global ties. Her legacy lives on in the rooms she once walked, filled with original furnishings, royal portraits, and treasured heirlooms.

Whether you love history, enjoy travel, or just want a peaceful break, Hānaiakamalama gives you a rare look into Hawai‘i’s royal past. It’s more than a museum—it’s a home filled with memory, meaning, and mana.
