Legacy of Pāʻū Documentary with Producer Adam Palya
Talk Story with Kahilu.TV’s Legacy of Pāʻū, producer Adam Palyaas he shares the inspiration for the documentary and the journey to produce it. This original documentary film, Legacy of Pāʻū with Barbara Nobriga, showcases the legacy of Barbara Nobriga and the art of pāʻū wrapping. Barbara has devoted 55 years to preserving and perpetuating the art of pāʻū, always organizing the King Kamehameha Day parade in Kona. With a total runtime of 23 minutes, the documentary features details of the pāʻū wrapping process, an in-depth interview with Barbara Nobriga herself, and footage from the King Kamehameha Day parade where plenty of elegant riders show off local flowers, a wide range of beautiful pāʻū wrappings and an intimate look into some of the hard work that goes into preserving this historical and culturally significant art form. Barbara Nobriga is a Daughter of Hawaiʻi, a Paniolo Hall of Fame inductee, and owner of Mahealani Ranch.
About Our Guest Speaker
After growing up in southwestern Pennsylvania for 23 years, Adam moved to Los Angeles and spent the next 12 years working in Television production. Adam now works part time at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea shooting, writing, producing and editing content for their new streaming service, Kahilu.TV. Adam is also the creator and Executive Producer (alongside Hawaiian musician Brother Noland) of his own television series entitled “Haole Do It” that airs locally on K5 and streams worldwide on Hawaiinewsnow.com. Adam produces videos and miscellaneous content on the side for local businesses and members of the community. His main goal has always been to create content that is funny and/or uplifting and is fortunate enough to have had plenty of opportunity to do so.
