Wilhelmina’s Tea

Take a step back in time and enjoy the serenity of Kailua-Kona, as you join us for this deluxe tour experience at Huliheʻe Palace! We are thrilled to present Wilhelmina’s Tea offering a unique and immersive tour at one of Hawaiʻi Island’s most honored and revered historic homes.

Upon arrival, guests will gather before embarking on a docent-guided tour of the Palace, a gentle reminder of casual island sophistication enveloped with the warmth of Hawaiian hospitality, to learn more about the monarchs who lived there and their lives in old Hawaiʻi. The experience will conclude with live entertainment and tea service on the oceanfront lānai, including delightful, locally-made delicacies, to be enjoyed overlooking the picturesque grounds and prestigious Kailua Bay.

This two-hour program is co-sponsored by the Daughters of Hawaiʻi and the Wilhelmina’s Tea Ladies. Proceeds support admission for local school groups.

Wilhelmina’s Tea is named in honor of Wilhelmina Kanaina Kamaileilanikehukaiopuna Rose Weight who was born in 1890 in Pāpaʻikou on Hawai‘i Island. A graduate of the Kamehameha School for Girls in 1908, she was the first female pāʻū rider (equestrian adorned in uniquely Hawaiian riding attire and lei) to represent the Territory of Hawai‘i in the Los Angeles Floral Parade, now known as the Rose Parade. While living in Mānoa, O‘ahu, she and her husband enjoyed dining at the Wai‘oli Tea Room, a historic tea house owned and operated by The Salvation Army dating back to 1922.

Former Regent of the Daughters of Hawai‘i, Faye Daniel, started the tea service in honor of her grandmother, Wilhelmina. Today, the tea is continued and hosted by her ʻohana and members of the Daughters of Hawaiʻi. This tea is recommended for adults and children 12 years or older, when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Aloha attire is preferred and garden party attire is suggested. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. All sales are final, tickets are non-refundable, and no special food requests are accepted.  Please note for food allergies: we cannot guarantee the absence of cross contamination, as we CANNOT guarantee a nut free kitchen. Please ensure you will be on the island of Hawaiʻi, commonly known as the Big Island.
