“Ma ka poli iho nō ʻo Hoʻonanea…”
The Daughters of Hawaiʻi invite you to Hoʻonanea: A Vintage Experience at Hānaiakamalama — a graceful and immersive gathering held at one of Honolulu’s most cherished historic homes. The Queen Emma Summer Palace stands as a timeless reflection of Hawaiian elegance, where royal legacy and enduring aloha continue to inspire.
Your morning begins at 9:00 AM, when you’ll be welcomed to select a vintage muʻumuʻu from the vibrant and thoughtfully curated collection of our partner, Muʻumuʻu Library. Surrounded by color, texture, and moʻolelo, you’ll choose the piece that speaks to you.
You will then spend time with our knowledgeable Kumu Kuhi, who will guide you in crafting a fresh lei kupeʻe to complete your ensemble. Select your pua, weave them with intention, and adorn yourself in the beauty of Hawaiʻi.
Fully dressed in your vintage Hawaiian attire, you’ll step back in time during a docent-led tour of Hānaiakamalama, learning more about Queen Emma, her ʻohana, and life in old Hawaiʻi within these beloved walls.

As part of this special experience, we are proud to introduce our Hoʻonanea Darlings—a small group of honored guests who embody the spirit of hoʻonanea, muʻumuʻu, and aloha. These six individuals are celebrated for the grace, joy, and cultural appreciation they bring to our community, and will be recognized throughout the event as ambassadors of the timeless charm and elegance of Hānaiakamalama.
The morning will conclude with a light picnic luncheon featuring a one-of-a-kind menu by Chasen St. Onge of Hale Momona. You may dine together on the terrace overlooking the lush gardens or make your way to Nuʻuanu Park, enjoying conversation and connection in true island fashion. Guests are welcome to bring their own linens and china for a personal touch, as tables and chairs are limited.
Please plan to join us from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The three-hour morning program is co-presented by the Daughters of Hawaiʻi and Queen Emma Summer Palace, in partnership with Kumu Kuhi and Muʻumuʻu Library. From lunch to 1:00 PM, relax and savor the provided luncheon as we continue to share in the spirit of hoʻonanea together.
