Hānaiakamalama Restoration Update

Aloha kakahiaka,

While restoration of the Edinburgh Room continues to progress, we wanted to give you an update on some of the other projects that are underway as well. Work on the front steps leading up to Palace continues. Plans to incorporate the coral blocks are moving forward with the intention of incorporating them into the new landing. In the Parlor, the room now dedicated to sharing the story of Queen Emma’s travels, some plaster work was completed on the Ewa wall and a fresh coat of paint applied!

Plans are also advancing to repair and replace some of the heavily damaged shutters found surrounding the home. However, all of the shutters will receive a new face lift, as they are repainted to a more historically accurate shade of green, aligned with historic preservation standards of the restoration period. Finally, the outside of the Edinburgh Room has garnered some extra care and attention. Sections along the outside wall, which were showing signs of wear and tear, are now being refurbished. With all of the improvements being made to the Palace, we look forward to when you are able to come down and see the changes in person!
