Mahalo to Our Partners at Hulihe’e Palace

Aloha kakahiaka,

With all the restoration excitement surrounding the Queen Emma Summer Palace, we’d like to take the time to spotlight some of the happenings over at Hulihe‘e Palace in Kailua-Kona.

Due to the generosity of Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii Inc., Hulihe‘e Palace recently received special consideration and became the recipient of beautifully crafted furniture as well as island-style decor! Because of this generous donation, we would like to extend a big mahalo to their VP of Residential Operations, Garret Matsunami, who remembered the kindness of his grandmother and her love for Hulihe‘e. In 1989, Garret’s grandmother, Kiyono Matsunami, donated her handmade Hawaiian quilt “The Kāhili” for an exhibit at Hulihe‘e.

We’d also like to take the time to recognize our partners. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to receive and transfer the donated items to Hulihe‘e. Mahalo piha to the Kai ‘Ōpua Canoe Club and Doug VeraCruz, Meggi of Meggi Magic Moving Services, Eka Canoe Adventures and Kalani Nakoa, and Kona Style and Alika Maguire, and–last but certainly not least–4th Vice Regent Manu Powers and the Powers ‘Ohana! With the dedication of strong supporters like those listed above and others, like yourself, we will continue to safeguard this historic home of our ali‘i, which has been nestled along the sands of Kailua-Kona for nearly 200 years.
